favorite biblical characters besides
jesus is this dude named paul and paul
is responsible for for for like over two
thirds 75 percent of what you see
written in the new testament paul wrote
it
and uh he writes this letter to a group
of believers in a in a place called
ephesus it’s called the book of
ephesians and he says to them in chapter
four he says something so dope he says
this he says
and he watch this and he who ascended
led captivity captive he’s talking about
jesus says jesus led captivity captive
captivity is what you got you jesus got

but he says this and he says and he gave
gifts
unto men
and then he gives some commentary on
what those gifts are
some to be apostles prophets evangelists
pastors teachers
for the perfecting or the equipping of
the saints
for the work of the ministry and
i don’t know what happened one day i
read that and i got a unique was a
unique revelation from me and that is
god’s greatest gifts to us
don’t roll into our lives on four wheels
not his greatest gifts
his greatest gifts to us walk into our
life on two legs

his greatest gifts are people

and the type of gifts he gives to you in
the form of people is an indication and
an expression number one of his love for
you
and number two what he has for you
and i think we just need to pause for
the cause

gift that he’s given

read a few verses of scripture found in
the the gospel of mark chapter 10
beginning at verse number 46 the gospel

beginning at verse number 46 as you’re
pressing there or turning there uh i i
want you to set your expectation i
believe god’s going to speak to us today
this is what it says it says
then they came to jericho
and as jesus and his disciples together
with a large crowd were leaving the city
a blind man bartimaeus which means son
of timaeus was sitting by the roadside
begging somebody say begging
when he heard that it was jesus of
nazareth he began to shout jesus son of
david have mercy on me
many
rebuked him
and told him to be quiet
but he shouted
all the more
son of david
have mercy on me
verse 49 says this and jesus stopped
and said call him
so they called the blind man cheer up on
your feet he’s calling you throwing his
cloak aside he jumped to his feet and
came to jesus
what do you want me to do for you jesus

i want to see

your faith
your faith
has healed you
immediately

he received his sight
and followed jesus along the road i i

a conversation that a gentleman named

and in the midst and in the middle of
their weeping and their worrying god
puts a word down on the inside of a man
named jeremiah and in the middle of
their chaos and their calamity jeremiah
says this in jeremiah 29 11 for i know

babylon
maybe you are dealing with a degree of
suppression and oppression and
depression i came to tell you in the

got plans
for you i know you may feel broken but
he’s got a plan i know you may feel
bruised but he’s got a plan i know you
may feel confused but he’s got a plan
listen he didn’t say you know the plans
i have for you
that’s why you’re confused he didn’t say
you know i have the plans that he said

you i know some things you don’t know
because i see some things you don’t see

are his preferences
it’s his preferences in academic
theological circles we call it his
permissive or his preferred will

but god’s preferences listen to me are
not automatically our experiences

are not always our experiences
he can prefer canaan
but we experience the wilderness

are going to become our experiences
then it requires our participation
it’s not enough for god to want it for

should worship your wants because you
shouldn’t because the heart is deceitful

clear in teaching that god also is at
work through your wants

you the want too
some want tools didn’t come from you
some wall tools came from him

just desires from your heart but desires

but sometimes it gives you what to want

because sometimes if he wants it for you
if he wants it for you he needs it from
you so he’s got to make you want it
because he knows you won’t get it just
by him wanting it he’s got to make you
want it

but god needed a prophet

so god made hannah want what he needed
and i am telling somebody here today
that’s watching this that some of the
stuff you want god needs and so he’s put
that want to on the inside of you
it’s a relentless want to it’s a

how do i partner with god so that his
preferences become my experiences
because when i don’t do this
i end up settling for the wilderness
when i can’t have canaan the wilderness

but when i don’t partner with god it
becomes a state

don’t partner with god it becomes the
place
passage how do i partner yeah the way
you partner with god
is through faith

faith is acting like
god is telling the truth

it is a persuasion a pisses it’s a
persuasion a conviction that is so
compelling that it provokes you to a
corresponding action called works
so the works is an indication that you
have faith
versus optimism
faith produces optimism but faith and
optimism on theo aren’t the same thing
because optimism optimism does not have
an author and a finisher
faith has an author and a finisher
looking unto jesus
who’s the author and the finisher of my
faith optimism says it will work out
faith says god
god’s gonna work it out
optimism says it’s going to work for my
good faith says god’s going to put his
hand on it and he’s going to work all
things together for my good and his
glory

it’s how we partner with god
it is the currency
we use to withdraw
deposits god’s made
in the form of promises
into our account
it is the withdrawal slip
that you use to access
what god has put in your spiritual
account
by grace
grace deposits it
faith withdraws it

this is what paul says regarding
salvation
in ephesians chapter 2
we are saved by grace
through faith

that grace
gives us the gift of salvation which is
available to everyone
and it is god’s preference
that everyone experiences
not willing that any should perish but
that all should have everlasting life
but everyone does not experience it not
because it’s not available but because
they don’t have the withdrawal slip
that they need to draw down on this is
why we all can serve the same god and
have two different experiences

you know there are some people who are
people
who are followers of jesus who feel like
and say things like this religion thing
not working for me
and when i hear that i say sometimes
silently to myself well it’s working for
me
why because we got the same bank

but maybe the difference between me and
you is i’m gonna use my withdrawal slip
to withdraw everything god has for me is
there anybody watching anybody in this
place that says i want absolutely
everything god has for me

this is why pastor mike spends so much

family this is no exaggeration you
cannot get christianity right if you’re
getting faith wrong

if you are getting faith wrong
salvation cannot be experienced without
faith
prayer is rendered ineffective without
faith and god cannot even be pleased

without faith it is impossible to please
god for he that comes to god
must believe that he is he exists

somebody needs to hear that right now
that feels underappreciated that feels
exploited that feels underutilized that

the god who seeks
and he will reward those that diligently

christianity right

and i know we i don’t know why we don’t
talk about this a lot more they’re
probably a number of reasons but i don’t
know why in current contemporary
christianity this post-modern world
we’ll talk about this more uh like the
reality of spiritual warfare and satanic
involvement it’s like
anyway but here’s the point
the enemy attacks you the most
in the area he’s most afraid of you
getting together
did you hear what i just said
the areas that are most consequential to
your calling
are the areas that will always
be a target for satanic attack
he does not want you to have faith
because he knows
if you ever get this withdrawal slip
thing together
there isn’t did you there is nothing
that he will be able to do to stop and
block what god has ordained for you

all faith is significant
look at me
all faith is not the same

i was looking at my bible
in the book of romans
paul’s letter to believers at rome’s
and paul talks about this
he says going from faith to faith
i say oh don’t play with me paul
don’t play with me like that what’s that
what’s that wait a minute he said from
faith to faith i say oh
then i read part of his letter to
believers at corinth and he said
something like from glory to glory
i say don’t you mess with me pause
from faith to faith to glory to glory
faith to faith to glory to glory faith
to faith to glory to glory faith to
faith to glory to glory i can only go
from glory to glory
if i go from faith to faith and the
devil knows
that he can stop me from going from
glory to glory if he stops me from going
from faith to faith
so part of what i believe god’s trying
to do through this series
is not just to give us faith
but to take us
from faith to faith
i just came today to tell somebody
there’s levels to this
i’ma say that
yeah i came to tell some there’s levels
to this and what god’s trying to do is
to take your life to another level but
listen to me but he always takes your
life to another level head first
so your head goes there before your life
goes there
this is why somebody is sensing that’s
watching this message right now god’s
getting ready to blow me up from the
flow up
why because even though even though
there are some things in my life that
hadn’t moved my mind is moved
and there’s some things i used to be
okay with i’m not okay with now there
are some things i used to be satisfied
with i’m not satisfied with now god’s
given me a holy discontent i got an
anointed agitation
i’m not unappreciative i’m just chasing
after something

there’s levels to this
and if you want to go from glory to
glory
i just stopped by to tell you
yesterday’s price
it’s not today’s price
yesterday’s price is is is not today’s
price yesterday’s faith
it’s not today’s faith see when i look
in scripture y’all all right i’m almost
done y’all all right okay when i look in
scripture family i see
four levels of faith
when i look at scripture the new
testament not exclusively but
specifically in the new testament alone
i see four levels of faith
so so y’all want them real quick here
here’s the first one i see in the new
testament first time i see the new
testament is what i call saving faith
saving faith
ephesians chapter 2 verse 8
watch this
says for it is by grace
you’ve been saved
through
faith
this is not from yourselves it is the
gift of god not by work so that no one
can boast so saving faith
is watch this the deposit and the degree
of faith
that allows you to access salvation
see faith
has to believe that grace exists
see that that’s why paul calls the
gospel of stumbling block some people
get tripped up on that because they live
in a world where nobody gives you
nothing for nothing
did you hear what i just said so when we
try to explain to them that god wants to
give you everything
as a grace gift
you don’t do that he wants to he wants
to do you a favor you hadn’t earned
it’s hard for people to wrap their head
around that yeah but when people are
actually able to believe that yes
that’s saving faith
that’s important
because saving faith gets you to heaven
but it is limited
in what it can do on earth
because saving faith
gets your salvation
but it won’t bring you elevation
saving faith gets you out of egypt
but it doesn’t get you in the kingdom

so if a person has saving faith only
they can be saved and sad
saved and stuck
saved and stagnant
because saving faith access to salvation
but it doesn’t bring elevation
there’s levels to this
[Applause]
oh i see another type of faith in
scripture too
you got saving faith but here’s another
one
you’ve got surrogate faith
i hadn’t heard of this
until i heard a bible teach out of
houston teach this i say omg let me look
at this
and i started looking at the scriptures
and i saw a theme
see i don’t like to draw a conclusion
based on an isolated incident in
scripture
i want to see if there’s a pattern there
right
and so
this surrogate faith maybe maybe you’re
not familiar with the term surrogate
faith but maybe you’re familiar with a
surrogate mother
surrogate faith operates like a
surrogate mother
it carries something
on behalf
of somebody else
did you hear what i just said
surrogate faith
functions in a way that’s similar to
intercessory prayer
it’s intercessory faith
it is faith
that stands
in the gap
on behalf
of somebody else
it is faith that says i am not just
going to believe god for me
imma believe god for you
it is faith that is the personification
of what paul told believers in galatia
when he said bear one another’s burdens
it’s faith that looks at your brother a
sister and said since your faith is a
little low right now borrow some of mine

and i know some of you are doubting the
legitimacy of this in scripture but in
mark chapter number 9 verse 21 there’s
an amazing example of a young boy who
was dealing with an issue that provoked
his father to come to jesus and his
father said can you do something for my
little boy
he said he’s got this issue and it
throws him into the fire or to the water
to kill him but if you can do anything
take pity on us and help us you say if
you can everything is possible for the
one that believes
and the boy’s father exclaimed i do
believe but help me overcome my unbelief
i don’t even have time to bother that he
said i believe and i don’t believe at
the same time
watch this
the boy gets a miracle doesn’t he if you
know the story
but he gets a miracle on his father’s
face
are y’all here if you feeling me put
some fire in that chat look look i i
said i said he got a miracle based on
his father’s face
but that’s not an isolated incident yeah
come on jesus goes into pagan territory
he’s confronted by a syrophoenician
woman who says my daughter is vexed with
the devil and i need you to intervene
and jesus said it’s not fitting to take
the children’s bread and give it to the
dogs and she said yeah even the dogs see
the crumbs that fall from the children’s
table and he said i ain’t seen such
great faith in all of israel he said you
got more faith than people in church
and the woman’s daughter gets healed
not off the daughter’s faith but off the
mother’s face
here’s another one
in john 11 there’s a man named lazarus

who gets sick and he dies
so he dies so he can’t believe for
himself
but his sisters
mary and martha
go to jesus
on his behalf
[Applause]
and jesus takes the faith of mary and
martha
and uses it to resurrect lazarus
that’s surrogate faith and some of you
the reason right now you watching this
the reason you still are sane in the
membrane
is because when you didn’t have faith
somebody

somebody
had faith for you
[Applause]
some parent
was believing god
even when you didn’t even know if you
believed in god
they were believing god
on your behalf
surrogate faith
there’s another level
it’s not just surrogate faith
number three there’s what i call
specific faith
in acts chapter 14 verse eight it says
in elisha there was a man who sat there
that was lame he had been their way from
birth and had never walked he listened
to paul speaking paul looked directly at
him and saw that he had faith to be
healed
he didn’t say faith to be saved
faith to be healed
it’s specific faith
see sometimes people have faith
but the specificity of an issue
suffocates it
so it’s like i can believe you i just
can’t believe you for that

it’s like you know i’ve never had a
problem believing god until i had to
believe for that
but this is the kind of faith
that accesses god’s intervention for
specific needs at specific times it’s
faith it’s faith that that believes god
not just for this but for that
i got one more
this my favor i just gave you the first
three to get to this one
this last one this the one right here

of human reasoning

watch this but people with crazy faith
understand that crazy faith isn’t crazy
crazy faith is actually smart

people with crazy faith understand that
crazy faith isn’t crazy crazy faith is
actually smart because crazy faith
doesn’t limit what it believes
to the prison of human reasoning
it says god’s ways are higher than my
ways
he knows more than i know and if he says
i can have it i can have it if he said
it’s time it’s time and he said his mind
is mine
supernatural
faith
crazy

crazy faith because some people have
faith
but their faith is relegated to the
realm of what is actually humanly
possible
that makes sense
it’s like okay we can get a card that’s
that’s kind of humanly possible
but crazy faith
transcends
the realm of possibility
it’s the kind of faith that causes other
people
to think
and believe that’s not supposed to
happen
now watch this
our text that we read here in mark i
didn’t forgot that’s what’s called the
hermeneutical loop let’s circle back
that our text that we just read here our
text that we just read in mark
is a powerful picture
of crazy faith
level four faith
in action
yeah our text in mark exposes us to an
encounter between jesus and a blind man
named bartimaeus
now our initial introduction to the
context of this text offers some
valuable insight listen to what mark
tells us mark tells us two things mark
tells us where jesus was
jericho
then mark tells us in verse 46
what happened when jesus left it says
jesus goes into jericho
with the crowd and with his disciples
and the bible says as they were leaving
blind bartimaeus is on the road
don’t miss that as they were leaving
because i want to show you how crazy
faith work
so this means jesus goes into jericho
i feel safe in assuming he probably
engaged in some kind of teaching
uh or miraculous ministry of some sort
while he was there
bartimaeus didn’t catch him on the way
in
[Applause]
are you following me yeah so so it could
have felt like to bartimaeus i missed
out
but crazy face says
even if i don’t catch him on the way in
i’m gonna get it on the way out
it says that jesus was leaving the city
bartimaeus was properly positioned
to make sure he took advantage of jesus
before he got too far outside of his
proximity
i want to talk to some people who feel
like you missed some things on the way
in i want to talk to some people who
feel like you wasted some seasons in
your life
i want to talk to some people who feel
like you’ve fumbled some opportunities
i want to talk to some people who feel
like you’d be further along if you had
done some things differently previously
i came to tell you crazy faith
will say i missed it on the way in
but i believe god’s
gonna send it back around on the way out
everybody that has never made a mistake
and has always made the right choices
you be quiet but for the rest of us that
need god to do it again

hears
that he’s

and he says jesus

how does he really know
this is jesus
the way he knows
this is jesus text answers the question
it says he
heard i’ll show you how crazy faith
worked man
he heard
not only did he hear
it says he shouted
so he couldn’t see
but he could hear
and he could talk
see this is what crazy faith does
crazy faith refuses to focus on my
inability to see and makes a choice
to focus on my ability to hear
and my ability to speak let me say it
again
crazy faith doesn’t focus on what i do
have
what i don’t have crazy faith focuses on
what i do have seen everybody else could
see jesus
so bartimaeus could have had a pity
party
and said i don’t have what they have
so i can’t have what they have
i don’t have sight
so i can’t get to jesus
but crazy faith says i don’t need to
have what they have
to have what they have god can do it
another way
i don’t know who this is for but i want
to pause and i want to tell somebody god
can do it without the degree i want to
tell you god can do it without the
partnership i want to tell you god can
do it without those connections i want
to tell you when god gets ready to put
you in a room if you don’t go through
the door he’ll open a window and if they
lock the wonder he’ll cut a hole in the
roof he’ll do it another way

this was scary though it says when he’s
shouting

including the disciples
told him to be
quiet y’all ready for this

who were close to jesus

who assumed they were speaking
in a way that was consistent with jesus
preferences
so this man would have missed his
miracle
if he would have confused church’s voice
with christ

it says many
the many representing dominant
conventional
civil religion
the way church is typically practiced
not necessarily church as god intended
see that’s what you’re trying to do in
this house is to represent
you got me people have a presentation
but sometimes the presentation of jesus
is a presentation that’s inconsistent
with who he really is so he’s got to be
represented

crazy faith refuses
to subject their belief system
to the opinions
of people who are with jesus but don’t
speak for him
i’m with jesus but you’re not speaking
for him right now
i know jesus speaks through you from
time to time but you’re not

you all as a house are walking into some
of the things you’re walking into is
because you had a leader who knew who
not to listen to
listen to this y’all
the bible says
they told him i’m trying not to run
because i
right i’m like a theological mud i grew
up baptist and then i went to a
pentecostal church and i went to a
presbyterian seminary so i got all of it
in me
and every now and then i feel what they
used to call we went to this church and
killed mike misty called the saint paul
uh church of god in christ and that’s
the first time i heard the word unction

there are a number of different theories
about why the man did it
so one theory is
that people who were blind and begging
may have been identified by certain
types of garments

it means this man has such crazy faith
that he didn’t wait

to get rid of the cloak

but crazy faith
has an answer to that question

do you see how specific he was
he knew exactly
what he wanted god to do

asks you
what do you want me to do
this man said
that i may receive my sight
and jesus says these words to him
your faith
he didn’t say my power
he didn’t say my power
he said your faith
it’s what made you he’s like i got the
power
but this power would have been rendered
inactive
if you didn’t partner with me
with your faith
y’all all right i’m done for real for
real i’m done

this man could have lived the rest of
his life blind in begging
and would have said it was the will of
god

and he didn’t have to
but he would have and he probably would
have said it’s just the will of god
and this is what’s scary
when we don’t allow god
and this is what he’s doing in some of
your life he’s not testing your faith
look at me he’s upgrading it
after this is over
you won’t have the same kind of faith
you had going in
he’s saying i’m trying to get you from
level to level from level to level
so that you don’t live a life
settling for less than my best and
calling it my will
that’s not my will

this is what’s scary
if this man
would not have released and acted upon
his faith

look at what it would have cost him and
this is what’s scary he would have never
known what life was like
living as a person who could see

this is the scary thing
about not living with crazy faith

and i believe god’s using this series
to stir into your heart
a grit a righteous resilience
a tenacity likened unto the tenacity of

when as he wrestled with god

settling

than your best
in our life
we receive your revelation
that there are levels to this
and great god that you are
we pray that you take us
from faith to faith
and from glory to glory
i thank you for this house
that fertilizes people’s faith
thank you for the examples and the
powerful pictures

done in this house
to remind us
of what you can do in ours
and as we embrace this next level of
faith
may it be said of us as it was said of
