In this Q&A video, Pastor Bill shares advice with young leaders on how to face opposition and the process of learning to walk in forgiveness.
what advice would you give someone who
is young in their leadership
well it’s something maybe that you wish
someone had told you
back before you guys started pastoring
in weaverville all those years ago
well the the hardest thing for me in the
early years was
how to face opposition it’s it’s not as
big a deal today but
but it really really did affect me and
i i remember i remember the lord
led me into a process
where i knew the day before that i was
going to
get a pretty heavy-handed slap of a
friend
and i knew i knew it 24 hours at a time
because he spoke to me out of the book
of lamentations
and he said give your cheek to the
smiter perhaps there’s hope
put your face in the dust and then
basically
uh you know i forget how it goes uh
maybe i’ll save you or something like
that you know
it was like oh no that’s tomorrow you
know i didn’t want to wake up
and uh and sure enough it’s exactly what
he told me and so i
i i had to walk through a process
of learning to walk in forgiveness and
to honor a person to value a person
even though i had been accused of some
pretty horrible things
and they were very important person in
my life and
so i walked through that for one year
when we had communion to break bread
with them and
confess my love to them call them on new
new years to wish them happy new years
just
doing all the things that hurt inside
but they hurt good they hurt because
something was dying that was supposed to
die so to speak
and at the end of the year he came back
to me said you were right i’m so sorry
so it was it was worth it but it was it
was like the lord spoke to me in that
season he said it’s important that you
face this new youth
i want to train you for something but
it’s going to hurt
so yeah so that that’s
i don’t know that anybody telling me
anything would have helped me it’s kind
of something you just have to experience
